Mombasa governor Ali Hassan Joho has challenged Deputy President William Ruto to account for his wealth.

Joho's remarks comes just a day after the Deputy President claimed that powerful and corrupt business people were backrolling Opposition coalition NASA's political activities.

He cautioned Kenyans against electing NASA's presidential candidate Raila Odinga, claiming that the Opposition could mortgage the country to cartels.

“How will you fight corruption when the helicopters you and your secretariat use are paid for by corruption cartels?” Ruto wondered during a political rally on Wednesday.

But in a quick rejoinder, Joho took the DP head on, accusing him of masterminding major economic scandals in the Jubilee administration.

He further defended NASA on campaign funding, noting that well wishers were funding the outfit.

“The choppers we are using have been donated by supporters and others have been hired. Can he tell us who is paying for their [Jubilee's] choppers?" Joho asked.

“We hear you are buying hotels in Nairobi and Mombasa and building a Sh1 billion home in Uasin Gishu. Can you tell Kenyans your source of money? Ruto should be the last person to talk about corruption," he added.
