Mombasa Governor hopeful Suleiman Shabhal has called on Governor Ali Hassan Joho to stop playing victim in the government's attempt to fight drug and substance use in the Coast region.
In a press conference on Thursday, the Jubilee politician accused Joho of politicising the war against narcotics, adding that the governor has an obligation of fighting the menace.
"Why is the Governor getting worked up yet nobody has accused him of dealing in drugs? Why is he getting so worked up? He should clean the city," he said.
"When a politician turns the whole drug thing into politics, it's absurd. We have more than 96,000 drug addicts," be added.
In a statement on Tuesday, Governor Joho accused the Jubilee administration of insincerity in its war against narcotics, observing that the government has politicised the matter.
"Jubilee should first clear their house first before coming here to talk about drugs. This is just for campaigning and nothing else," Joho said.
