Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi has said the Coast region is looking up to him and his Mombasa counterpart Hassan Joho for direction on matters politics.

Kingi who during his swearing-in ceremony early this week revealed that he's eyeing the presidency in 2022, said he will not fail the region's residents. He was however quick to add that he and Joho will first go on a retreat to discuss the matter.Joho has also cast his eyes on the country’s top seat come 2022.“The ground work has been laid and the foundation for takeoff set,” said the Kilifi county boss on Tuesday. He at the same time termed Joho as a fierce leader following his win in the just-ended national elections.According to Kingi, the polls were proof that they are the undisputed ‘political kings’ of the Coast region. He said in spite of the attempts to bar them from being on the ballot, they beat their rivals with wide margins to emerge winners.“They should be ready for us. Only great leaders are targeted for elimination. Of all the six Coast governors, we’re the only ones who were pursued with vigour, but we overcame,” said Kingi as quoted by the Star.He said their command of Coast politics was just the beginning of representing locals’ interests, noting that he will not fail them.“The sky is the beginning for the two of us, not the limit, we must lock the region’s vote,” added Kingi during Joho’s swearing-in at Mama Ngina Drive in Mombasa.
