Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has assured members of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) of free and fair party nominations.
The ODM party leader said the party is not going to make the same mistakes it made in the past elections.
"Poor nominations cost us votes in the last election. We will not repeat that,” he said.
The outspoken and flamboyant governor has been chosen to spearhead ODM campaigns as the party looks forward to smoking out Uhuruto from state come 2017.
Joho said he asked the former prime minister and Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) leader Raila Odinga to step aside and allow the party to make him the next president of Kenya.
Political analysts believe that the decision to have Joho and other youthful leaders spearheading campaigns in different parts of the nation will relieve Raila, 72, a great burden.
The governor lauded the members of the party as well as the party leader for their unity and promised to oversee free and fair primaries.
“The mistakes that ODM has made before will not be repeated. We have a strong national party with very loyal members and a popular party leader. It is time those numbers are translated into votes,” said Joho, as quoted by The Star.
