The County Government of Mombasa has dismissed media reports that the Appellate Court stopped the eviction of tenants and demolition of their structures by the county government.
Lands, Planning and Housing CeC Edward Dzilla Nyale, said the reports were untrue.
"I wish to draw attention to reports appearing in sections of the media this morning alleging that the Court of Appeal has stopped the "eviction' of tenants in the envisaged urban housing renewal project. This is not factual," he said on Tuesday.
In a statement, Nyale stated that no hearing was done on Monday nor any injunction issued by the Court of Appeal.
"As it stands, only the high court ruling previously dismissing the case remains in force. I call upon journalists to be factual and practice professionalism in their reporting," he said.
Nyale who represents Governor Ali Hassan Joho under the Lands, Planning and Housing Department, said the County has always viewed the affected residents as key partners in the project and has continuously engaged them and their resident associations on the progress of the project.
"As previously stated the project will be carried out with minimal disruption to those affected including a relocation, compesantion and not evictions as maliciously reported."
Nyale clarified that the County government of Mombasa remains focused and committed to the provision of affordable and quality housing for its residents and "will not be distracted by such callous and malicious reporting and misinformation."
