Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho and Nyali MP Hezron Awiti have agreed to put aside their differences for the benefit of the county.
The two leaders urged other leaders in the county to unite and work together in fighting tribalism and insecurity.
Governor Joho urged parents to take their parental roles seriously as youth as young as 13, are joining criminal gangs in the county.
“The criminal gangs in Mombasa comprise of young boys. They can be dealt with easily if parents stop shielding them,” he said.
Governor Joho who was speaking at Tononoka Grounds also called on members of the public to take a leading role in promoting security, saying it was also their responsibility.
He further asked leaders to stop pointing fingers at each other when addressing matters affecting the county which he said include insecurity, corruption and nepotism.
Awiti on his part urged leaders to unite, saying the county will move forward in terms of development through cooperation between leaders.
He said leaders should focus on improving security in the region following the recent cases of knife-wielding criminal groups who have been giving Mombasa residents sleepless nights.
Mr Awiti said it was not enough for security bosses to claim that the criminal gangs were being protected by local politicians eying seats during the forthcoming polls.
“Those who are financing Wakali Kwanza and other criminal gangs in the county should be arrested,” said Mr Awiti.
Governor Joho and MP Awiti assured residents that there are no ill-feelings between them.
