Police in Mombasa were Thursday forced to intervene during Mashujaa Day celebrations at Tononoka grounds following clashes between supporters of Governor Hassan Joho and Nyali MP Hezron Awiti.
According to citizentv.co.ke, Awiti was forced to temporarily stop his speech as police calmed the situation.
Awiti later proceeded to make his speech after the situation was calmed.
But according to NTV, the chaos were as a result of a fight between Jubilee and Cord supporters.
It said President Uhuru Kenyatta's - Warembo na Uhuru - and Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho's - Joho Queens - started heckling each other, thereby temporarily disrupting the event.
