An ugly scene was witnessed in Mombasa county on Tuesday after supporters of incumbent governor Hassan Joho exchanged blows with Nyali MP Hezron Awiti's team in a Luo convention at the Tononoka social hall.
According to Joho's handlers, the event was set by the governor to rally the Luo community behind him in the August 8, polls but trouble started when Awiti sought to address the attendees only to be blocked by Joho's security men.
Chairs were damaged and turned into weapons and blows exchanged. AP officers armed to the teeth were called in to quell the clashes and Awiti had to be whisked away.
