Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has asked Nyanza residents to ignore independent candidates and instead vote for ODM candidates eying various elective seats.

Speaking on Monday at Bondo Town in Siaya where he had accompanied Siaya Senator James Orengo to present his nomination papers to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), the firebrand politician challenged area politicians to deliver votes for NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga. While castigating a section of politicians from the region for using Raila's name to springboard their political ambitions, Joho said the move has contributed to the former Prime Minister's failed Presidential bids in the past."Most of those who have been supported by Raila have not done enough to see him enjoy his sweat, but this time, we expect every party nominee to not only preach six piece voting pattern but also put their money on initiatives that enhance his chances," he said. The debate on ODM's position on independent candidates in areas considered their political turfs was set in motion by Raila last week in his Nyanza backyard where he said he will only support his ODM candidates. However, his utterance has elicited mixed reactions amid fears that it may cause voter apathy.
