Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has criticised President Uhuru Kenyatta for skipping the Monday presidential debate which was attended by his main challenger, Nasa’s Raila Odinga.

In a statement, Joho who is one of the President's fiercest critics said no leader is too high to be held to account."In a democracy, no leader is too high to be held to account and no citizen is too low to be listened to. This is the reality that makes President Uhuru Kenyatta's assertion that the Presidential Debate was a waste of time and he had nothing to discuss with Hon Raila Odinga very unfortunate," read part of the statement. The ODM deputy party leader accused the Head of State of remaining silent while Kenyans run out of basic commodities and continue suffering from runaway insecurity.According to Joho, the President has a duty to set standards and be an example with regard to basic national values."As Head of State, the President has a duty to set example with regard to important values we as a people must live with," he added.Joho's sentiments come at a time when the President is under sharp criticism from various quarters following his decision to snub the debate.
