Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho, has left a message for Mombasa residents and Kenyans as they join Christians across the world in celebrating Easter.
Easter, also called Resurrection Sunday, is a festival and holiday celebrating the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, described in the New Testament as having occurred on the third day of his burial after his crucifixion by the Romans at Calvary c. 30 AD.
It is the culmination of the Passion of Jesus, preceded by Lent, a forty-day period of fasting, prayer, and penance.
Below is Joho's message issued on Friday:
"Easter is here once again. I wish the Christian community the very best as they commemorate this auspicious holiday.
I urge you all to use this moment to preach unity and peaceful coexistence in our county.
For those who will be celebrating in Mombasa, come and excite your taste buds with exotic Swahili cuisine and unbeatable shopping offers in the Mombasa Shopping and Food Festival at Old town and Fort Jesus."
