Irene Asha, has been discharged from the Aga Khan hospital.

She gang raped by the people she knew, at Kibarani Mombasa, while walking home, evening, from a funeral.

The men later put her on rail, leaving a train to chop her legs off, early February 2017.

Governor Ali Hassan Joho directed his government to settle Asha's hospital bills, help her start a business and relocate her from Mworoto slums to a better house in Kisauni.

''Her deep optimism in life has touched my heart and many of those who know her plight. The County government of Mombasa will settle her medical bill in full and together with the Mombasa leadership we will contribute to move her to a new home and fund her new business as she turns over a new leaf,'' Joho said during marking of Women's International Day.

With help of Women Representative Mishi Mboko, she was discharged and resettled in her new home, Friday, alongside her family.

''Irene, you have personified courage and stand as an icon of resilience for the people of Mombasa and the Country at large,'' Joho told her.

The governor also instructed the Department of Gender and the Civil Society to continue working close with police and ensure the perpetrators of the heinous act are brought to justice.

''We wish her the very best as she starts over her new life. We pray to the Almighty to strengthen her courage further,'' Joho said after she was discharged, Sunday.
