As Likoni MP aspirants amplify their campaigns ahead of the August 8 polls, incumbent Masoud Mwahima's campaign was dealt a blow after Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho drummed up support for ODM candidate Mishi Mboko.

Mboko, who is currently the Mombasa Women Representative, is Mwahima's biggest threat in the race for the seat that has attracted four others. While rooting for Mboko's election over the weekend, Joho who took his campaigns to Likoni said the outspoken MP has emerged as an astute defender of the rights of her people.Joho said Mboko's tenure as Women Rep has been felt as she has ensured her voice is heard, adding that the she is a big asset in ODM, the region's most dominant party.Joho asked residents to reject Mwahima who is defending his seat on a Jubilee Party ticket after decamping from ODM.The county boss argued that the two-term legislator has betrayed the interests of his constituents who are the 'biggest victims' in the Jubilee administration.Mwahima has been gaining ground over the past few weeks. However, the entry of Joho into Mboko's campaigns is expected to water down his influence in the constituency.
