Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho was on Wednesday cleared by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) of corruption allegations.
DPP Keriako Tobiko said he received the file from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) recommending the file to be closed for lack of evidence.
Also cleared were Mohammed Abdullah Zubedi and Abdulhakim Abdullah Zubedi who were being accused alongside Governor Joho.
The three were being accused of allegedly participating in the irregular allocation of the Mwembe Tayari Market in Mombasa County to a private investor.
They are said to have irregularly allocated the market to Nawal Business Centre.
“EACC recommends that the file be closed for lack of evidence. The file shall be independently reviewed and a decision there on made based on the evidence and the law,” said the DPP in a statement.
Governor Joho who was grilled in April by the anti-graft agency denied the allegations arguing that he was not involved in the allocation of the market since the process was initiated and completed nearly 20 years ago before the system of devolved governments was in place.
