Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has condoled with families and friends of the victims who were killed when a wall collapsed on residential houses in Pandya area following heavy rains.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Joho said he was deeply saddened by the deaths of the six residents, five of whom were from one family.

“I wish to extend my condolences to the family, relatives and friends of those affected. May God assuage your grief and give you comfort at this difficult time. I also wish to thank the County Inspectorate and the Kenya Red Cross for their rescue efforts at the scene yesterday,” read the post in part.

The governor urged residents to exercise caution as the county continues to experience heavy rain, which he said has affected infrastructure in the region.

“I urge residents of Mombasa to exercise great caution at this time. There have been higher than expected rains and this poses unusual stress on our infrastructure. The county government is in the process of identifying, inspecting and restoring various structures that may be unsafe at this time. Please co-operate with public officers engaged in this effort at this time,” said Joho.

The county boss further urged residents to report any incidents at the Disaster Management Centre in Tudor at Magan Lal Building.

“The County is handling all disaster related incidents and accidents from there. Please report all flood related incidents to the centre through either of the following numbers 0707911911, 0788911911, 0755911911, 0775911911,” he said.

Joho assured residents that his government will be engaged in significant civil works to repair and restore roads, bridges as well as unblocking the drainage system.
