Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has expressed optimism that he will be re-elected as Mombasa governor in next year’s general election.
Speaking on Saturday when he launched an ambitious plan aimed at transforming Mombasa County by 2035, Joho said he is confident of being re-elected as governor.
Governor Joho also expressed his optimism of becoming President of Kenya in 2022, a move he believes will help him ensure that the Mombasa Vision 2035 materializes.
“For those asking about the sustainability of implementing this project, I tell them that I am sure I will be re-elected in 2017, and that in 2022 I will be the president and yes I will oversee its full implementation,” he said.
Governor Joho is also optimistic that the launch of the Mombasa Vision 2035 will transform the region and position it as a business and investment hub.
The governor, in partnership with private developers, plans to replace old houses in the county estates with new ones.
Joho said it was the responsibility of his administration to provide decent and affordable houses for residents in the county.
He added that plans were underway to transform the county’s nine estates to create more housing units.
“Through the housing plan, we will be able to bring down the housing deficit in the county by 16 per cent and I ask the critics of the plan to give us their input,” said Joho.
