The Committee’s chairperson and County Secretary Francis Thoya said Thursday that Joho wants the ceremony to be conducted at a lower cost and should take the shortest time possible.
“Initially the committee was looking at a maximum of Sh15 million but the governor has given instructions that the budget should be cut down.
The budget that has been approved is Sh3 million,” he told the press.
Thoya said Joho will be sworn in at the famous Mama Ngina Drive gardens on Tuesday August 22 at a ceremony he said “will take not more than two hours.”
Joho is among elected county chiefs who have rejected lavish swearing-in ceremonies.
Others include Nairobi’s Mike Sonko and Kitui's Charity Ngilu.
“There will be no fanfare of any sort. The swearing-in will take place between 10am and midday after which people will go back to work,” Thoya said.
Sonko declined Sh25 million set aside for his installation saying the funds will be channeled to paying county workers while Ngilu rejected Sh6 million meant for the event.
