Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has donated mattresses, blankets and foodstuffs to families affected by floods in different parts of the county. The governor’s move comes at a time when Mombasa has been hit by floods following the onset of heavy rains.“We are in the meantime distributing mattresses in all the six sub-counties,” wrote Joho on his Twitter account.The governor said his government is committed to ensuring that persons affected by the floods settle and continue with their normal lives."We will continue to support those affected to cope with the situation until they are able to get back to their feet,” he said.The outspoken governor also revealed that he has unveiled a programme to address food shortages in the county."We have also initiated a feeding programme for all those affected by floods in various areas around the county," he added.Joho also revealed that his government is clearing structures that have blocked the passage of water leading to floods in different sub counties."The process will cut across the whole county. The exercise is aimed at clearing illegal structures that are responsible for flooding in most parts of the county," he said.
