The expected entrance of Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho in 2022 Presidential race would be a barrier and might ‘kill’ Deputy President William Ruto’s State House bid, observes historian Nyachio Bogonko.
The ODM Deputy Party leader has not hid his ambitions and is on record for dismissing Jubilee administration’s public rhetoric of leading till 2032.
Ruto on the other hand has been embroiled in public spat with Joho and recently labeled Joho an academic dwarf, remarks which resurfaced political rivalry between the two.
“The entrance of Joho is a great barrier for Ruto and I guess he must be very uncomfortable. That is why he has directed his latest political duels to him,” he said.
“The matric will be complicated in the sense that Ruto is not assured of Central Kenya votes and history shows that. Joho on the other hand is likely to inherit Raila Odinga’s strongholds leaving Ruto with little options,” he added.
The flamboyant Mombasa Governor has been sponsoring ODM events and is on record for sponsoring the party’s 10th anniversary single handedly.
