Mombasa gubernatorial candidate Suleiman Shahbal has told Mombasa residents to reject Governor Hassan Joho at the ballot, accusing the county chief of engaging in blame games and peddling lies.
Shahbal (Jubilee Party) has for the last one month heightened campaigns as he seeks to oust the ODM deputy party leader from the prestigious gubernatorial position to become Mombasa’s second governor. He hosted President Uhuru Kenyatta, Deputy President William Ruto and other senior Jubilee leaders in Mombasa on Sunday where he accused Joho of “misleading” Coast residents.“Why do you celebrate poor and failed leadership? Leadership that doesn’t respond to issues affecting people but thrives on misleading them?” he asked.“Leadership that inspires hate and fears and divisions and insults? Why?”Shahbal is a prominent businessman with interests in the real estate, education as well as banking sectors. He is busy burning the midnight oil trying to stamp his authority by trouncing Joho, a key opposition ally in Mombasa and in extension Coast region.“There is no grace in failing. A government that cannot manage garbage and creates dumpsites all over in every free space is a government that has failed,” Shahbal added.“The leadership in Mombasa has no moral authority to seek another mandate. It is wicked for them to say they have delivered.”Joho on Sunday told the ruling party to explain what the national government has done in Mombasa to warrant Uhuru and his political lieutenants seek for votes in the regions whose economy wholly relies on Tourism.
