Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has said the Cord coalition only recognises him as the official flag bearer in the Mombasa gubernatorial race.
He dismissed claims that Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar and Nyali MP Hezron Awiti, who are both members of the Wiper Party, will contend against him.
“As a coalition, we can’t afford to be divided along party lines in our strong holds. We must arise and field single candidates to ensure that we clinch victory without tearing into each other since we all represent the manifesto and that is Cord,” said Joho.
The county boss said a time will come when the party will make known its stand on its candidates as per regions, adding that he was Cord's favorite in the race.
“Don’t be swayed by what others have to say about this seat. Just be assured that I am the chosen one as I'm just awaiting swearing in. Many will talk but few will reach the finish line,” he said.
In the recent past, we have witnessed an in-house discomfort between the three contenders who happen to come from the Opposition coalition, with the Wiper candidates threatening to decamp to other parties if the Cord leadership hand picks the county flag bearer in the next general election.
However, the county boss said their main enemy in the race is the Jubilee coalition, which should Cord reason enough not to fight among themselves, a move he said can give their opponents an advantage over them.
