Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has refuted claims that he will be ODM Party leader Raila Odinga's running mate in the 2017 general election.

Speaking at Likoni in Mombasa on Thursday during the launch of projects initiated by the county government, Joho said his involvement in party activities is not a guarantee that he will be named Raila's running mate.

"This is not my time to be Raila's running mate. My time will come and that is 2022 when I will go for the country's top seat,” said Joho.

The ODM deputy party leader said his intention is to lead Raila's presidential team but not as the running mate.

He said he has no dream of being Raila's deputy, and is only interested in defending his governor's seat come 2017.

"I will spearhead Raila's presidential campaigns all over the country since I have confidence of retaining my seat,” he said.

This comes after Joho held rallies in Nairobi and Kisumu in a bid to popularise the ODM Party ahead of the 2017 polls.
