Seven highly trained police officers were in pursuit of Mombasa governor Hassan Joho’s life, claims Dagoretti North MP Simba Arati.

The embattled governor survived in what he called ‘attempted’ assassination in Migori town last week after chaos broke out between supporters of Governor Okoth Obado and his main rival Ochilo Ayacko.

And Arati says the alleged assassins could have been behind the chaos and took ‘advantage’ to target Mr. Joho.

“These things can be planned. Joho has said clearly that seven officers in civilian targeted him and unfortunately their plans went hey way,” said Arati in Sunday’s interview at a local Radio station.

He added: “It doesn’t make sense that they only targeted Joho. It was clear that someone was after his life because only his vehicle was targeted and no one else’s.”

During the fracas, Joho’s bodyguard was shot on the leg by officers believed to be attached to Obado’s security details.

Although no formal investigations have been launched of the alleged assassination, government spokesperson Erick Kiraithe has since dismissed the claims.
