Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho says he will work towards ensuring Mombasa residents reap fruits of supporting presidential candidate Raila Odinga if opposition takes over government in August.
Joho popularly referred to by his supporters as Governor 001 said no one among current politicians in Mombasa can successfully champion the interests of Coast people more than him.He said politicians vying for elective seats through Jubilee Party in Mombasa should explain their successes to locals before seeking residents’ mandate to lead.He was speaking in Mombasa in company of MPs Rashid Bedzimba and woman representative Mishi Mboko while on a campaign trail on Sunday evening. The county chief has been branded ‘Sultan’ by his supporters because of his relentlessness in championing the rights of the people of Mombasa and in extension Coast region.“I will be the link between you and the NASA government,” he said while addressing a well-attended meeting at Treasury Square, Mombasa.“Vote for NASA. That’s the only government that can truly transform your lives.”Joho is an ardent supporter of opposition and NASA leader Raila Odinga. He is the opposition’s point man in Coast and is expected to marshal support for Raila ahead of the August election. He has also been instrumental in keeping the Jubilee administration on its toes by pointing out corruption cases especially the alleged loss of Sh100 billion in the Mombasa-Nairobi SGR project. The Jubilee Party recently dished out nomination certificates to a bandwagon of politicians in Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Tana River and Taita Taveta counties to challenge aspirants fielded by NASA.Joho says the Jubilee aspirants are too unpopular to wrestle those vying on opposition tickets. Among those fielded by Jubilee include governor contenders Salim Mvurya (Kwale), Suleiman Shahbal (Mombasa), Hussein Dado and Gideon Mungaro (Kilifi).
