Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has said he has no personal differences with President Uhuru Kenyatta, adding that he will continue to criticise his leadership for the sake of the people of Mombasa.

Speaking during an interview on NTV Jioni on Wednesday evening, Joho said nothing will bar him from correcting the Head of State as long as he remains the Governor of Mombasa.

“I will not change my political stand because this is for the benefit of my people of Mombasa. I have never abused any one. I always speak the truth and if anyone else would be there (president), I would tell him the truth because of my people,” said Joho, as quoted by the Naiton.

The governor also said that he is yet to understand what President Uhuru meant when he told him that he will teach him a bitter lesson during the re-launch of Mtongwe Ferry.

Joho was barred from attending the event and allegedly put under office arrest until the President left the county.

When asked about his rivalry with the President, Joho said they fell out after he questioned why Waitiki Farm squatters were asked to pay for their title deeds.

“If asking why my people are paying for title deeds and if asking why the Port is being taken to Naivasha is being abusive then let me say that I do not take back my words. As I said earlier I do not use abusive language against anyone,” he added.
