Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has said he will not respond to President Uhuru Kenyatta after he threatened to teach him a lesson.
Speaking during an interview with Citizen Digital, Mombasa County director of communications Richard Chacha said Joho has opted not to concentrate on the remarks made by the President during the re-launch of the Mtongwe ferry on Monday. Uhuru told Joho not to play games with the government, adding that they will not take it lying down.“He should not play with us or else we will teach him a lesson,” said Uhuru.Chacha, however, said Joho is not interested in exchanging words with the President at the moment. “We do not want to take the Uhuru-Joho standoff further than that. For now, we want the matter to rest up. Hatutaki kujibizana na Rais. However, the Governor will be responding to the President’s statement on political forums. He will be in Taita Taveta soon; maybe he will address the President’s remarks during that function,” said Chacha, as quoted by the daily.Commenting on Uhuru's move to block Joho from attending the relaunch, Chacha said the Governor had no intention of causing a storm, and only wanted to comment on the number of challenges the channel has been facing since Jubilee took over power.“The governor did not have any intention of disrupting a function presided over by the President. The governor was to go and reignite a debate that had been there about status of ferry services and management – is it a national or devolved function? We wanted to emphasize that ferry services and management is a devolved function,” he added.
