Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar has accused Governor Hassan Ali Joho of hurling insults at President Uhuru Kenyatta to win sympathy votes.

Omar and Joho will face off come August 8 for the governor seat.

The senator said Joho should tell Mombasa residents what his achievements are instead of fighting Mr Kenyatta unnecessarily.

"Abusing the President is not heroism. We can only celebrate you if you deliver on the development promises you made and created jobs for the jobless youth," said Omar, as reported by The Standard.

Omar said Joho had failed to deliver and was engaging in sideshows.

The Wiper party candidate told his supporters that he deserves to be elected because he is the most qualified.

He was speaking during a rally at Tononoka grounds in Mvita.
