Nyali MP Hezron Awiti has accused Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho of seeking sympathy by engaging President Uhuru Kenyatta in public spats.

Awiti claimed that Joho knows he has no chance of being re-elected in August and is using dirty tricks to gain sympathy from locals.Addressing journalists in Mombasa on Tuesday, the Nyali MP alleged that Joho’s criticism and alleged demeaning of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government is a well calculated plot to cause rebellion in the Coast region. The MP claimed that Joho has run out of ideas and is looking for ways to survive politically.“What governor Joho wants is to create rebellion in the Coast with the main aim of getting sympathizers,” he said, as quoted by the Nation.Awiti told Joho to prepare for a tough political battle in August.“Joho’s time has expired and he has nowhere to run to, we will teach him a political lesson that he will never forget on August 8,” said the MP.Awiti who has declared interest in Joho’s seat said that Mombasa locals are ready for change. He accused Joho of spending a lot of time fighting the national government at the expense of delivering services to Mombasa locals. The President recently accused the Mombasa governor of doing little to better the living standards of locals, and asked him to account for the Sh40 billion that had been allocated to the county by the national government.Joho, however, dismissed the claims, saying his governemnt has only received Sh17 billion since its inception. On Monday, the governor was denied access to the Mtongwe Ferry relaunch that was being presided over by President Kenyatta. The President hit out at Joho asking him to stop following him around because he (Uhuru) is not his (Joho) wife.
