Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has accused the Jubilee Government of failing to address historical land injustices in the Coast region.
Joho said the land issues in the region can only be solved if the government applies a comprehensive approach, that will include figuring out the root of the problem. The outspoken governor hit out at President Uhuru Kenyatta for writing off a Sh2 billion debt owed by coffee farmers, but directed Waitiki squatters to pay for their title deeds.Speaking in Gazi, the ODM deputy party leader said the numerous trips by Jubilee leaders in the Coast region are meant to sway residents, adding that he will not allow that to happen.“This is not a Jubilee zone and we will not vote for Jubilee as it has no room here," said Joho.Joho also criticised the government over plans to set up a dry port in Naivasha, arguing that the move will lead to unemployment, as Coast residents depend on the port of Mombasa. He urged residents in the region to register in numbers in a bid to send the Jubilee government home, adding that he still believes he will be the first president from the Coast region come 2022.
