Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has said he is aware of an alleged plot by the Jubilee government to misdirect voters from Likoni during the upcoming general election.
Joho claimed Jubilee plans on grounding the Likoni Ferry services to make it impossible for voters to cross and take part in the polls, The Star reports.
The governor accused the government of planning to hoodwink residents of Likoni to register in other constituencies.
Other sub-counties in the county can be easily accesed through the Likoni Channel Crossing channel.
The Coastal kingpin said the move will leave Likoni vulnerable to vote tampering.
He noted that the county has over 300,000 unregistered voters as opposed to IEBC’s projected target of 195,000 voters.
Joho further rubbished claims by Deputy President William Ruto that members of the opposition are clueless as they seek to take over power in August.
Speaking at the same event, Jomvu MP Badi Twalib called upon the government to allow deputy county commissioners to oversee the issuance of uncollected IDs.
“Instead of piling up those IDs at Huduma Centres, the deputy county commissioners should take charge of the uncollected IDs to make collection easier,” said Twalib, as quoted by The Star.
