Whereas Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho supports the unity deal, his Kilifi counterpart Amason Kingi says he is not sure what is in the deal and may take time to approve it.

Kingi on Friday said he would only support the union if he is convinced that its positive effects will trickle down and help Coast people in development.

"Like any other ordinary Kenyan, I also heard of the union in the media," Kingi said in Kilifi.

"I am focused on supporting a union that will directly benefit the people of Kilifi and in extension Coast region as a whole," he added.

Kingi made the remarks one week after Joho said he would support the Uhuru-Raila pact for purposes of uniting the country.

"Raila is my party leader and he has a made a move which I believe is in the best interest of the country," Joho said as quoted by the Standard.

"As a deputy leader in ODM I side with him; I am willing to engage Jubilee government on development."

Uhuru met with Raila on March at the president's Harambee House in Nairobi where they agreed to work together.
