Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho and his Kilifi counterpart Amason Kingi have dared President Uhuru Kenyatta to have them arrested after his fiery warning against the secession debate. The two governors are pushing for the secession of the Coast region from the rest of the country.Last week, President Kenyatta warned that stern action would be taken against anyone threatening the peace and stability of the country. The remarks have been interpreted to be in reference to NASA's push for secession and the plan to swear-in Raila Odinga as the People's President.“We will not entertain any language or actions that threaten our territorial integrity,” said Uhuru during the governors' convention in Kilifi. However, speaking on Sunday during the Coast people’s assembly convention Joho and Kingi insisted that they will not bow to threats by the Head of State.“Only a fool can ignore this talk. You cannot speak of threatening the territorial integrity forgetting to touch on the dignity of human beings. We will not stop talking until our people get their rights,” said Joho.On his part, Kingi likened Uhuru's pronouncements to those of his late father President Jomo Kenyatta who cautioned against secession calls during his tenure as President.“What we heard from him (Mr Kenyatta) is exactly what his father did. Different words with the same meaning. This struggle is not new...” said Kingi.
