Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho and his Kilifi counterpart Amason Kingi have said President Uhuru Kenyatta-led Jubilee administration has no backing in the Coast.
Speaking during a National Super Alliance (NASA) campaign rally in Mtwapa, Kilifi County on Sunday, Governor Kingi accused the ruling coalition of ignoring the Coast region over the years only to start 'fake' projects when the elections draw near.
"They slept for four years only to wake up now. We are telling them it is too late, we can't save them,” said Kingi.
Joho said the Jubilee administration has been frustrating him because of fighting for the rights of Coast residents whom he said have been treated like second-class citizens by the government.
"They have failed to fulfil their promises to Coast residents on water and land. They only come here to launch projects whose funds were not allocated in the budget in order to gain political mileage," he said.
Joho accused the government of attacking him through the regional coordinator Nelson Marwa and police.
"I want to tell the police and county commissioners that they are not Jubilee's agents but servants of all Kenyans," said the outspoken Governor.
Speaking at the same event NASA presidential running mate Kalonzo Musyoka rallied locals to back the re-election of Kingi and called for a 99 per cent voter turnout to back the opposition alliance.
"Last time it was 60 per cent turnout, this time it should reach 99 per cent so that we can send Uhuru and Ruto home early morning of August 8,” said Kalonzo.
