Mombasa County Governor Hassan Joho has launched a sanitation project in primary schools in the county.
Speaking on Friday in Mombasa during the launch at the Mwangala and Longo primary schools in Likoni, Joho said the primary schools water, sanitation and hygiene project popularly known as WASH, seeks to improve hygiene and healthful living among primary school pupils.
"I believe this project will improve hygiene and reduce occurrence of waterborne diseases among our school going children," he said.
The county boss said the project which is set to introduced in all primary schools in the county has already been completed in eleven schools, adding that the county government has committed funds for 31 schools and is outsourcing funds for the remaining 63 schools.
The project also includes training for both the students and teachers on best hygiene practices and proper maintenance of the facilities.
