Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho slammed Deputy President William Ruto, saying he is a billionaire who can not explain to Kenyans how he acquired his wealth.

Speaking on the sidelines of the lifestyle audit order that was declared by President Uhuru Kenyatta in Miritini on June 14, Joho said Ruto should be audited.

Uhuru made the order targeting all civil servants during launch of Dongo Kundu.

The governor said an independent international firm incapable of being compromised should be contracted to audit the lifestyles of top Kenyan leaders, including governors (himself), the president and his deputy president.

"William Ruto, you're a billionaire who can not tell Kenyans where you got your money. And I'm challenging him to pick an international firm to come and audit him and audit me, and see who is the thief," Joho said.

His sentiments followed those of his party leader Raila Odinga, who hailed the lifestyle audit order by Kenyatta, saying a foreign audit firm should be invited.
