With barely five months remaining to the August polls, Mombasa Governor who is eying a second term in office has moved fast to cement his political bedrocks amid inroads from rivals.Joho who represented Kisauni Constituency for five years, said Kongowea market which is located at the heart of his former political jurisdiction is his support base."I was elected Kisauni MP because of this market in 2007. In 2013, I won more votes than any other in the Governor race here. I am sure that in 2017 that will be the case as well," said Joho, as quoted by the Star. However, Nyali MP Hezron Awiti who is keen to unseat the incumbent claimed that the market is his turf for he has done a lot for the traders.

The Kongowea Market subject is the latest flashpoint that has reignited the war of words between the two political heavyweights in the county with each taking credit for the development project.

Joho who has been in politics a little longer compared to his rival, said the vote-rich Kisauni remains one of his support base even as the race for the governor's seat hots up.
