Omar took on Joho, whom he accused of fighting President Kenyatta in order to gain sympathy votes from Kenyans at the coast.

He challenged Joho to outline his achievements for the Mombasa people instead of fighting and hurling insults at the president.

“Abusing the President is not heroism. We can only celebrate you if you deliver on the development promises you made and created jobs for the jobless youth,” said Omar.

He urged the locals to try him at the helm of the county seat, saying he will deliver as he is most qualified.

Incumbent Governor Joho is facing competition from Omar, and his key Jubilee rival Suleiman Shahbal.

Despite being in the same coalition; Nasa, the two have been battling, with each of them trying to woo voters on different grounds.

Despite the strong opposition from the two, recent poll indicate Joho is still on the lead in the race for the top seat.

He was speaking during his first main rally at the Tononoka grounds in Mvita.
