Just three days after ODM conducted their nominations in the Coast region, Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho is at the receiving end amid claims that he interfered with the process, a scenario that is now threatening to split the party's support in its perceived stronghold. After losing to Mishi Mboko in the race for the party ticket to contest the Likoni parliamentary seat, Hamisi Domoko has made it clear that he will ditch the party amid claims that the nomination exercise was not democratic as Joho allegedly interfered with the process."ODM should not brag about being democratic because it is not. Joho has taken the party as his personal property,” Domoko said.In the neighboring Nyali Constituency, former journalist Mohamed Ali lost to Said Abdallah, Joho's cousin, in the exercise that Ali claimed was marred with incidences of voter suppression. The Changamwe Constituency nominations exercise was also rocked with chaos with area MP Omar Mwinyi getting arrested. The lawmaker has since blamed Joho for allegedly conspiring to rig him out in favour of his opponent. In Kwale County, the situation is not any different as a cloud of uncertainty continues to surround the party's future in the county that overwhelmingly voted for Raila Odinga in 2013.Gombato Bongwe ward MCA Omar Boga who lost to Suleiman Dori in the race for the party ticket to contest the Msambweni parliamentary has now threatened to ditch the party as he blames Joho for his loss.
