More than 20,000 KCPE candidates in Mombasa County have received free lunch following a directive by Governor Hassan Joho.The 21,570 pupils received the free meal for the three days they will sit for the final Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams.“Mombasa County Government through the Department of Education and Children under the School Feeding Programme is for the 2nd year now covering pupils sitting for KCPE, Joho said on Wednesday.“As part of this programme, the county is feeding 21,570 pupils undertaking their KCPE examination in all the 97 public schools across the County.”The county boss said the programme will continue as the county government strives to ensure more children enroll in school.“Nutrition indicators have revealed that approximately 60 percent of our children attending public schools are in need of nutritional support,” said Joho.“Our school milk programme has helped parents in improving the nutrition standards, raised retention rates in schools, helped students focus on their learning and it is our hope that the programme during the examination will help students concentrate more,” he added.The 2017 KCPE exam ends on Thursday.
