Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho should be admitted to the National Super Alliance (NASA) as a co-principal, a Jubilee nominee has said.Former Garissa Mayor Mohamed Gabow said Joho wields immense political influence and qualifies to be admitted to the coalition’s top commanding body.On April 27, during the unveiling of NASA’s presidential flag bearer at Uhuru Park, opposition supporters in attendance demanded Joho addresses them. The county chief received a rousing welcome when he was ushered to address the crowd.NASA’s Pentagon is currently constituted by Raila Odinga (ODM), Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper), Musalia Mudavadi (ANC), Moses Wetangula (Ford Kenya) and Isaac Ruto (CCM).Mr Odinga was named the coalition’s flag bearer while Kalonzo was unveiled as his running mate.Mudavadi, according to the lineup will be Premier Cabinet Secretary while Wetangula and Ruto will be deputy Premier Cabinet Secretaries.Joho has been in the political limelight since 2013 after publicly deferring with President Uhuru Kenyatta over the allocation of Waitiki land to squatters in Mombasa. The county chief has consistently taken Uhuru and his deputy William Ruto head-on on issues affecting the Coast region.Gabow argued that leaving Joho out of NASA’s top cream body amounts to belittling Muslims.“By leaving out Joho from the main NASA structure, it means the coalition treats Muslims as a minority group with no value,” he said.“Apart from Kalonzo, all the others in NASA top brass come from the Western region. The NASA structure lacks the face of Kenya and every right-thinking Kenyan should reject it,” he added.
