Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho deserves credit for empowering people with disability, former Senator Emma Mbura has said. Mbura said Joho’s decision to hire at least five persons living with different disabilities in his government is a well-thought-out idea. The former Senator argued that despite Joho having many flaws, he did a good thing by incorporating persons living with disabilities in his government. The second term county boss has hired Richard Chacha (Mombasa Communications Director), Esther Ingolo and at least three other people living with disability in the county’s executive."I am happy with that. That is one big thing he has done and other governors should copy this," said Mbura on Friday, as quoted by The Star. The vocal politician lamented that persons with disabilities have been sidelined by the national and county government, adding that time has come for them to be recognised. She further urged county bosses to empower women and give them a chance to shine. She raised concerns over disabled persons, especially women, being sidelined by communities living in the Coast region."No matter your level of education, among the Coastal communities, when you are a woman who is disabled, you will find it hard to earn the respect you deserve," she said.Citing the case of the 2017 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) top student Goldalyne Kakuya, Mbura said that persons with disabilities and the girl child have proven their worth. Is there a newsworthy accident, incident or event happening in Mombasa County that you want Hivisasa to cover?
