Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has raised concern after armed men were spotted at his old house in Nyali.
Addressing journalists at the county police headquarters in Mombasa, where he had gone to record a statement, Joho said six men armed with AK 47s went to his old house that is currently under construction at around 10am today (Wednesday).
He, however, said that is not clear what the men's intentions were, adding that they spent about an hour at the residence.
The governor said the men were spotted by his neighbour who approached them thinking they were police officers.
Joho urged the regional commander to launch immediate investigations into the matter, adding that he wants the officers to comb the area using sniffer dogs.
The county boss said he wanted the operation carried out today just in case the men planted illegal substances at the house.
“I expect nothing short of a thorough investigation and sniffer dogs to undertake the operation to establish if anything has been planted in the compound,” said Joho.
Joho said he was forced to report the matter as he was exercising caution after President Uhuru Kenyatta threatened to teach him a lesson.
Joho, had earlier expressed fears his life could be in danger, saying the President’s remarks were chilling and a direct threat to his life.
The outspoken governor, however, said no amount of intimidation will stop him from defending his seat and attending political rallies and meetings ahead of the August polls.
The governor moved out of the said residence after being elected Kisauni MP.
