Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho has lashed out at Deputy President William Ruto over his remarks describing him as an 'academic dwarf'.
On Thursday, during a Jubilee campaign rally in Jomvu constituency, Ruto said Joho was opposing government's plan to set up a dry port in Naivasha because of his limited education.
The DP took a swipe at the county boss telling him to take advantage of the free secondary education plan by the Jubilee administration to go back to school.
“Your governor says the Jubilee government wants to move the port to Naivasha. How can a port be transferred to a place that does not have water? He is saying that because he has little education,” Ruto said as quoted by the Daily Nation.
But a fiery Joho told the DP to respect him and concentrate on selling Jubilee’s agenda instead of 'wasting time discussing him' at political rallies.
The ODM Deputy Party leader termed Mombasa his stronghold and dared Ruto to a political duel for the Mombasa governorship.
“I am challenging Ruto to a contest in Mombasa. He cannot keep walking around disrespecting us. I am busy campaigning for Raila Odinga and he should focus on selling Jubilee manifesto," Joho said.
The Governor said he was not worried by Jubilee forays in the coastal county saying Mombasa is a NASA zone that will vote for the opposition leader Raila Odinga to the last man in the polls to be held next month.
