Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has hit out at the Jubilee government over the fight against drugs.
Addressing journalists in Mombasa on Tuesday, Joho asked the President Uhuru Kenyatta-led administration to clean up its house first instead of politicising the issue.
"Jubilee should first clear their house first before coming here to talk about drugs. This is just for campaigning and nothing else,” said Joho.
Joho further faulted the government for linking him to the illegal business, adding that the allegations will not intimidate him.
"I am not aware that I am being probed for drugs. How do you give a bank robber notice? If you know barons why don't you arrest them?" asked Joho.
The ODM deputy party leader accused Jubilee politicians of spreading the propaganda to prevent him from defending his seat in the August polls, adding that he was absolved of the drug trafficking claims in 2013.
"The narrative that I am a drug dealer was peddled in 2013 to deny me a chance to vie. We are seeing the same narrative being driven now. I am telling you I will be on the ballot,” he added, as quoted by The Star.
Joho said his government has spearheaded the fight against the manace in the county, and urged the Jubilee administration to do the same.
This comes after President Uhuru Kenyatta last week put Mombasa drug barons on notice, statements that were reiterated by his deputy William Ruto on Monday.
