With Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho setting his eyes on the Presidency in the 2022 elections, the race to succeed him as Mombasa Governor should he earn a second term in office is expected to be titanic.
Speaking during the unveiling of William Kingi as his running mate on Thursday, the ODM deputy party leader said he will pass on the baton to his number two as he shifts his attention to the country's top seat."I will leave my running mate to serve Mombasa people and seek the presidency,” he said.Joho said Kingi, who is university don, has enough administrative experience to serve the residents. While defending his running mate choice, Joho said he picked Kingi as he can stand strong to defend his people, adding that he consulted stakeholders before making the decision.Earlier, it was expected that Joho would pick County Secretary Francis Thoya to deputize him. However, those in the know say the choice was met with murmurs of reservation as those in Joho's inner circle were uncomfortable to work with him.
