Mombasa governor Hassan Joho has come out to explain why he is a target of drug trafficking claims.
According to Joho, being an elections year, the leaders are using every available means to tarnish his name in in order to win over voters.
The outspoken governor said that similar accusations were labeled against him in 2013 during the election period.
“They started this war against on me towards the 2013 general elections and I expected the same during this elections,” said Joho.
Last week after the extradition of Akasha brothers to US where they are facing drug-related charges, the government stated that it had launched a crack down on top politicians who are allegedly involved in the trade.
The development has led to sharp criticism of the government which has been accused of political witchhunt.
