On behalf of the County Government of Mombasa under the leadership of Governor Ali Hassan Joho and the Jumuiya ya County za Pwani Secretariat, Deputy Governor Dr William Kingi has congratulated Prof. Laila Abubakar on her new appointment as the Vice Chancellor of the Technical University of Mombasa (TUM).
The Technical University of Mombasa within just a few years after being chartered into a full fledged public University has acquired an enviable reputation for research excellence and achievement.
With the leadership of Prof. Laila, Kingi said the Technical University of Mombasa had achieved major milestones in promoting research and innovation and as well the general development and integration of our region.
The JKP headquarters is being hosted at the University.
"As a county we are proud of this University being the only one of a kind "at the sea level", it has been a great source of expertise to our government and as well a major hub of education that has imparted a lot of skills on our youths through the various courses that have been tailored to meet the needs of the market and especially our county," Kingi said on April 13, during welcoming ceremony of the VC.
While the extent of its achievements belie the University's youthfulness, the DG said they are a true reflection of the agility and audacity of the University's competent leadership since inception.
"And with a proven track record as the Ag. Vice Chancellor we believe that Prof. Laila shall be able to roll the wheels of this University to the top."
He indicated that the new designation is a recognition of her immense talent and exceptional accomplishment as an academic.
"We hope it will bring honour to yourself, the Technical University of Mombasa, Mombasa County and the greater JKP region."
"Again I extend my congratulations to you, the University Council and the entire TUM fraternity and I offer my best wishes for your continued success in providing the finest educational opportunities to the people of Mombasa and beyond. Congratulations!" concluded the DG after attending the ceremony.
