Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho shouldn’t have been re-elected because he has shown he cannot perform, Nyali MP Mohammed Ali has said.
Ali said on Friday the huge heaps of garbage in Mombasa is one indicator the county chief has personal interests that may not be helpful to ordinary Mombasa residents.
The former journalist who joined politics in the run-up to the August 2017 general elections, at the same time, hailed President Uhuru Kenyatta’s intervention that led to the clearance of garbage, especially at the famous Kongowea market.
“In the spirit of putting my people first, this year, I shared a podium with President Uhuru Kenyatta and asked him to help us in cleaning Kongowea market after the traders approached me saying that county government had failed in their constitutional mandate,” Ali said.
“Our opponents, enemies of development twisted the whole story and came up with propaganda which at the end of the day wouldn't solve the problem or put food on the table of any Nyalian. Since our conscience and intentions were clear, we kept our heads high focused on the prize, we didn't answer back.”
“Am glad to answer them with results, despite garbage collection not being my constitutional mandate, I am glad we did it for my people. Nothing brings me satisfaction than my people being happy; the fact that the traders are happy with the new state of the market gives me full satisfaction as a leader.”
Ali contested for the Nyali parliamentary seat against Joho’s brother Said Abdallah.
His rivalry with Joho began during the ODM primary elections in which Abdallah trounced him.
Ali after his defeat blamed Joho who he claimed connived with Nyali IEBC officials to rig him out.
He, however, beat Abdallah during the August 8 poll after vying as an independent candidate.
“Leadership is not about throwing tantrums but offering solutions. We have awakened. We will not sleep anymore. From now on, there is a new Nyali. We neither face East nor West; we face forward. God bless Nyali,” he said.
