In a Facebook post on Thursday, Joho lauded the court, noting that it had upheld the will of Mombasa residents.

“This afternoon, the honorable Election Court sitting in Mombasa, vindicated my victory and election as Governor of Mombasa County. The will of the people of Mombasa has been upheld,” read Joho’s post in part.

The outspoken Governor said he was grateful to God for revealing the truth in regards to the accusations made by former Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar, who was the petitioner in the case.

“After lengthy deliberation on the evidence presented, the Honorable Lady Justice Lydia Achode found that there was no evidence to support the allegations made by the petitioner and that the allegations were unfounded and without basis,” said Joho.

“I wish to thank the Almighty for revealing the truth. For the truth shall always defeat falsehood,” he added.

Joho also thanked his legal team led by lawyers Mohammed Balala and Paul Buti for putting up a formidable defense.

“This victory is not mine alone but for the people who endured long queues on August 8, 2017, to give voice to their dreams and aspirations. Asanteni sana,” added Joho.

In her ruling on Thursday, Justice Achode ordered Omar to pay Sh8 million as the cost of the petition.
