Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho carried out floods assessment in Kadzandani Ward, Nyali Sub-county following heavy rains that have been pounding in the area.
Accompanied by CeCs, area MCA and other county officials, Joho said the Mombasa County Government Disaster Management Committee is distributing food and non-food items such as beddings and other amenities towards supporting the residents affected by the heavy torrential rains.
"We have also intensified the provision of relevant medical services to the same. I wish to express my sincere appreciation to all the well-wishers who have volunteered wholeheartedly for the betterment of Mombasa residents during this rainy season," the governor said on Thursday.
The governor expressed commitment towards improving the lives of Mombasa residents, terming the flooding as an unfortunate incident.
Currently, more than 150 people are being sheltered at a youth centre in Kadzandani area owing to the fact that most of their houses are uninhabitable.
County officers from the Department of Transport, Infrastructure and Public works together with county Inspectorate are since working round the clock to ensure all flooded areas are drained across the county.
With the coordination from the sub-county administration, the officers have mapped all flood-prone areas and are urging residents to be cautious and move to higher grounds as a means to mitigate disasters.
